"We may not even reach 70," Gang leaders didn't have high life expectancies. Even if they reached the time of gray hair and arthritis, they would have been enemies for years. Building their lives around tearing the other down. There was no way to unlearn that, years in the making.
She said nothing about her promotion, she felt congratulated as much as she could expect too from him. But at his soft words, words that maybe she wasn't supposed to comment on, she turned to face him. Ivy placed her hand on his arm for a moment. "I know."
It wasn't his fault really, and she'd been a teenage girl who felt betrayed. She was a woman now, and that was all water under the bridge.

Ivy’s words made Kai’s gut churn because they were true, something might happen to them. They could be killed in a fight, or they could be shot by cops, anything. Being in a gang meant that anything could happen to them, they were risking their lives everyday with what they did. It came with the job description. Even though they were enemies now, Kai still felt something for Ivy, they were friends as kids. They still had good memories of their past and that all Kai had of Ivy now. He would always love her but he wouldn’t ever be able to be her friend again. All they had left now was the bad things that were to come in the future. Kai would hold onto their friendship before all this happened. He would lock them up inside forever. “Your right” he said softly more to himself then to her.
Feeling her hand on his arm made his heart stop for a moment, it had been a long time since she had touched him and it felt nice a for a split second but then it was replaced with a feeling of wrongness. It was wrong, they were enemies and the only way they should be touching each other was in a fist fight. At least she understood his words and didn’t take offence to them. He didn’t really want to fight with her right now. If this moment was the last moment he had with her a friend then he didn’t want to ruin it by starting a fight with her. It dawned on him them, this was going to be the last time he could sit with her and have a normal conversation with her, the next time they met it wouldn’t be as casual. The feeling made him drink some more, so he took the rest of his drink down and looked away from her.
“It shouldn’t be this way” he said putting his hand to his forehead. They were stupid words, he shouldn’t be thinking like this. He had to get over it, things were the way they were and there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn’t convince Ivy to not be apart of the Snakes and she wouldn’t be able to convince him not to be with Kaz or to be a tiger. The times have turned and this was they way it was suppose to be. “Deep down you will always be my best friend, Ivy, you know that right” he said moving his hand away and looking at her beautiful grown up face. From now on he will only ever see her face as a child, as they would be the only good memories he had left of her. Words: 459 Notes: None Tag: Ivy

Ivy bit her lip a little and looked at him. The feel of his skin was too familiar and it suddenly made him real. She could see the boy in his life hardened face. Hear the light voice in the one that now belonged to a man. It was such a mix, both utterly wrong and one of the most right moments of her life. It had been a long time since she had any contact with him or Kaz. Real one on one contact. Granted, she'd seen them, or heard what they said while on the job as a runner for years. But this was different. And now it was too late to go back.
She suddenly needed alcohol and rather than waiting for her own, she borrowed his, taking a deep swig. A sigh punctuated the action.
His words caught her off guard. She hadn't know that. "I do now." She said quietly, offering him a slightly hidden smile. They were in public, and history didn't matter, she was already being too friendly with a Tiger, her ex-best friend's second in command.

Kai didn’t stop Ivy when she took his drink and swigged from it. Her ability to drink almost anyone under the table was impressive and it was one of the things he loved most about her. His heart sank a little bit as she replied to what he had said. How could she not know that. They had been so close as kids and even though there was a massive falling out between her and Kaz didn’t mean he still cared about her. After all it was technically his fault they were no long friends. “Well you do now” he said feeling the need to have more alcohol lost more. He waved the bar man over and demanded another whisky and the glass was back in his hand within a matter of seconds. He drank some more and put the half empty glass on the counter top. This was all to much for him, where did the time go. It only felt like yesterday that they were sitting in the park, smoking cigarettes and tagging the playground. Now they were sitting in a seedy bar drinking and thinking about the past. He hated the way things were, how could he have let them get this bad. “Ivy, this sucks” he said and rubbed his forehead with his fingers. Words: 218 Notes: None Tag: Ivy

"I miss it. I miss all of it. Having friends like you both, ones to laugh and fight with. When I only had to lie to my dad about little things, when we didn't belong to gangs..." Those had been good times. But when they split, Ivy needed danger around her to remind her of them, she couldn't go be a prep kid now. No way. So she graduated high school and worked as a runner for the snakes, the ones who wanted to provide for her a family she didn't already have. She never had family at home, and Kai and Kaz had become their own family.
"There's this TV show I was watching it once and this character says, "people are mostly crap"... I'm pretty sure he's right." She said finishing his whiskey for him, too unmotivated to get her own, plus it was an excuse to share again.
Ivy looked at him, and then around, no one seemed to be paying them much attention.... odd. But certainly alright with her. "We should do this more often, somewhere less conspicuous." Just toss them back and pretend they were children again.

When we didn’t belong to gangs these words rang around in his head for a few moments after she had spoken them. They never didn’t belong to a gang, they were born to be apart of a gang. Even when they were kids they were apart of a gang, it wasn’t life threatening and dangerous but it was there gang, for just the three of them. No body was allow in, it was just for them. Now it wasn’t really different, well it kind of was. “I miss being carefree” he said no drama’s no worries. But that was all so different now. There wasn’t a day that went by where he could just sit back on the couch and watch the TV all day. Some one wanted you to do something or you needed to run some kind of errand. He was going to die young but he was going to look like he was 80. The sacrifices you made for the career you choose.
Kai snorted back a laugh at her words. When you think about it the characters words did make sense, people were crap. “I know some pretty crappy people” he said thinking back to the other night when he was jumped on his own tuff by her people. Kai didn’t even noticed that the glass in front of him had been taken and emptied, he was to busy thinking about the other night trying to figure out whether or not he should ask Ivy about it? I wasn’t like he was hurt badly but it was just the inconvenience of it all. He looked down at his glass and frowned for a spilt second before realising where his drink had gone. He waved the bar man over and ordered another whisky for himself and then a second on from Ivy. Ivy spoke again, talking about doing what they were doing more often. They weren’t doing anything that bad, really.
“Yeah, we should, even though we are on opposite sides of the line it doesn’t mean we still cant be friends….in secret” he said whispering the last couple of words. He glanced around the bar he could see that no one was paying any attention to them, it was like they were just a normal pair of friends talking and drinking. Perhaps no body here wore colours and they had no idea who they were. This was good for them but it didn’t mean someone could just walk in at any moment and see them talking and smiling at each other, if it was a tiger it would be on like Donkey Kong. “Maybe we should start looking for that less conspicuous place now” he said drink down half of his whisky in one go. He was starting to feel the need to get some fresh at anyway. words: 472 notes: none tag: Ivy

"Everyone has a crap side," Ivy said. What made you a good person was fighting your own devils and trying not to be crap to everyone you met. That's what gang worlds were about, seeing the crap in every enemy and nothing else. But for Ivy, the Tigers were people, they were past friends. It made her wonder if she could really do her job.
"Yeah, now would be good. Maybe those apartments that squatters use on neutral, just a high up floor so no one will find us." She said in an undertone while she picked up the shot he had supplied for her. After she downed it and stood. They couldn't leave together. Too obvious. He would know to follow her after a little while.

That they do. Everyone had a crappy side to them, a lot of the time you never saw that side in people you know, but there were people that just couldn’t help but show this crappy side. Kai didn’t really have time for people like that, people that couldn’t be nice or friendly. In this line of work it was hard to decipher the crap people from the decent people but you just have to grin and bare it. Kai just nodded he was to busy thinking about things to speak. Kai watched Ivy down her shot and get to her feet. “It was good to see you Ivy” he said as she walked away, he had to make it seem like they were going their separate ways, just in case there were any unwanted ears listening. He ordered another drink to kill some time between their departures. She would understand and wouldn’t mind hanging out at the apartments by herself.
“Conversing with a Snake, Kai?” asked Tim. Kai looked up at him and smirked. “You shouldn’t pry into other peoples affairs, Tim. That can get you killed” he said sipping slowly at his drink. Tim didn’t belong to any gang but he was old friends with Kai so he knew where his alliance lied when it came down to it. “Sorry Kai” he mumbled and looked down at the bar. Kai smiled and slapped Tim on the shoulder. “It’s alright Tim, if it had of been anyone else you probably would get a hit out on, but that was Ivy Paige” he said tucking down the last of his drink. The look on Tim’s face made him smile, he was obviously remembering her from when they were in school together. Kai stood up and out on his coat. “Hey Tim, give me two of those whisky bottles would ya, got some more drinking to do at home” he said giving Tim a wink as he handed over the whisky bottles.
Kai then left the bar and started walking back towards tiger territory but cut across the road and disappeared into the shadows and make his way back behind the buildings and entered to old apartments from behind. He make his way up the top most floor that wasn’t falling apart and looked around he couldn’t find Ivy. “Hey Ivy where are you?” he called out in hushed tones. Words: 399 Notes: None Tag: Ivy

Ivy headed to the old broken down apartment building and scaled the rickety stairs to the top floor where more desperate people were least likely to sleep, hide or rush in. There was a room that hadn't completely fallen apart, or maybe someone had fixed it up at one point. Some candles stood melted onto a table and two folding chairs were next to it.
That would work. She used her lighter to add a little light, not like there was much to look out. In the semi darkness she could just sit and think, wonder about things had gone. It was so quiet here, almost eerily so. But then she heard him call and she whistled the way she used to when she was a kid. She often had to be the one to find Kai and Kaz, given she was financially better off. It was like a password. She chuckled a little, hearing his footsteps draw closer.

After Kai called out he waited for her response and what came made him smile. It was her old whistle that she used to use. He could remember when she had snuck out and she was waiting outside his window. She would use that very same whistle to get his attention, and out the window he would go and off to Kaz’s house. It brought back so many memories. He loved memories. That was the difference between Kaz and Ivy, Ivy brought back memories for him where as Kaz never had the time to reminisce with him. Just being around Ivy brought back so many different things, a lot of the time she didn’t even have to open her mouth.
Following the whistle he could see flickering light up ahead, she must have found some candles. Rounding on the door way he stepped in and smiled as he saw Ivy in the semi darkness. “I brought beverages” he said holding up the two bottles of whisky in his hand. He closed the door behind him as he didn’t want anyone to see the flicking of the candles and decide to investigate. It also block out the sound of their voices as well. He then walked over to Ivy and held out a bottle of Whisky for her. He looked around the room again and sighed, it was very old and very dusty but it was going to have to do, if they wanted to see each other more often.

Ivy grinned and took the bottle from him, popping it open and taking a swig. Her dad loved whiskey and she loved to make his favorite drink a sort of sacrilege. Shots and bottles in the dark. And maybe it helped convince herself she could be in both worlds at once. "Not much but it works." Even Romeo and Juliet managed to get away in plain sight, so had Tony and Maria. not that she envisioned them to be lovers on opposite sides of a war, she just didn't know any stories about friends across lines. Or ones where they both lived, but oh well....
She wasn't sure what to say, all she did know was that she liked just being with someone so utterly familiar. She'd been out of his and Kaz's lives for so long she didn't even know what to ask, assume, to say.

Kai popped open his own bottle and swigged from it, the harshness of the alcohol wasn’t as bad anymore, it was just kind of sliding down his throat and warming his belly. “Its fine” he said looking for a place to sit down, there wasn’t any intact furniture in the this room but that didn’t matter they could just sit on the floor, just like they did when they were kids. Ivy and Kaz used to come over his house and they would hang out in his room. Ivy and Kai would sit on the floor leaning against the poster covered walls as Kaz used to sit and lie on his bed. Sitting on the floor now and leaning against the walls with the peeling wall paper wasn’t going to be any different for them.
Soon he spotted a place where there wasn’t heaps of dirt, it was right under the window. He walked over and sat down and he smiled and closed his eyes as the cool fall air came in and washed over him. He looked over to Ivy and patted the floor next to him as in to say come and sit with me. He rummaged through his pockets and found his cigarettes and lit one, at least smoking wasn’t on Kaz’s no go list. If she could see him now, drunk. She would hit the roof, he would just have to go home tonight and sleep it off. There would be no slipping in through Kaz’s back door and climbing into bed with her tonight. He would never hear the end of it and the string of questions would follow. He shuddered as he thought about it and continued to drag his smoke.

Ivy watched him move and rose to join him, sitting beside him quietly. She wasn't a big smoker but something about it was tempting her and she held out her hand silently for a cigarette while taking another swig of whisky. She sighed and looked out at the room. "Kaz hates when you drink." She said, thinking back to when they were a bit younger. "At least she used too...." Sometimes she forgot how long it had been since they'd been friends.
She leaned over and took a cigarette from him since he hadn't seemed to notice her silent request and lit up, wanting to watch the fire more than actually smoke. But she took a small drag and blew out the smoke. Just like the past it clouded and disappeared in the dark.

Kai felt instantly guilty when ivy spoke, she was right Kaz did hate it when he drank. She hated it when they were younger and she still hated it now. He was going to get an ear full if she found out that he was drunk. “She still does, she is okay with me having a couple but not enough for me to get drunk and violent” he said watching Ivy take one of his smokes and light it up. He hadn’t seen her smoke in a long time. “I usually get very angry and violent when I drink” he said hoping that it wouldn’t scare her away from their drinking session, at the moment he felt content and there was no need for break something in his thoughts but you never know what might happen later. He took another swig of his whisky and dragged on his smoke.
Kai looked over at ivy and took hold of her hand, her small soft hand in his big rough callused hand. Even this gesture brought back memories for him. They used to always hold hands as kids. He liked to watch Ivy and Kaz hold hands more, as it used to spark teenage fantasies for him. He was never able to get them to kiss though which would have been awesome. The sound of police sirens went past and his whole body tensed, it was a bad habit as they were never after him but you couldn’t be to careful, especially being in neutral territory the cops were always out trying to nab someone doing something illegal. Once the sirens were gone he relaxed again. He finished his smoke and dabbed it out on the floor and flicked the butt away.

Ivy smiled a little as he took her hand. Even after all this time, it was familiar. So wonderfully familiar. "I can run if I can't take you out." She joked. Ivy took a swig of her whiskey and then took a long drag, feeling the hateful burn in her throat. She felt him tense at the sirens, felt her own body sigh, as if being caught would finally mean not having to hide. But the moment passed and she continued with her thoughts.
"Kaz has so much fire in her, violence and passion, and she runs a gang thats known for those traits. She was so drawn to you because you were strong in those ways, the same ways that she was... it always struck me funny that she wanted you not to drink, too make sure you didn't lose your cool. Maybe she was afraid you would overpower her, best her at her own game...." Ivy mused. Ivy had been drawn to Kai because he had talents and skills that she just didn't have, but he liked that. Kaz was always besting Ivy, as much as they were friends, Ivy felt a certain need to prove herself to her less fortunate, rough and tumble friends.
