Kai smirked and grunted at her words, people always thought Kai to be the type to hit his woman to put her in his place but he really wasn’t like that. He has only ever hit a woman if they were in a battle. Even then he felt bad for doing it. “I wouldn’t ever hit you, Ivy” he said looking over to her. “Its not because I think you weak or anything, its just I don’t like hitting girls” he finished and looked away. Even though Ivy was pretty capable of taking care of herself he still wouldn’t challenge her to a fight. If Kaz and he ever got into an argument and it got physical it was because she threw the first punch or slap. He wouldn’t even hit her back. He would defend himself by trying to block whatever she threw at him but he wouldn’t ever use force against her. It doesn’t matter how strong a girl thinks she is a male is always stronger, especially one built like he was. It wasn’t a fair fight, all it took was one good punch to the face and she would be out cold.
He listened to Ivy describe Kaz down to the Tee. She was right she always acted funny when ever Kai got angry, it was like deep down she knew that she wouldn’t be able to fight him off he started to get physical with her. “You know anything I get angry and break stuff she seems to get a little scared of me, nervous even, like I’m going to take whatever is angering out on her” he said swigging his whisky. “I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t ever hurt her no matter how drunk or angry I was you know?” he said taking the smoke of her and drawing back on it deeply and handing it back to her. “I enjoy drinking and it is a little frustrating when she doesn’t talk to me for days when I do” he said swigging more of the whisky.

"You might hit me if you were past your limit," Ivy said realistically. If he were so drunk he couldn't control himself, then all bets were off, but as Ivy saw it, she knew there was that risk and she was willing to live with it. Kaz, on the other hand, refused to be upstaged or out of control. Ivy liked control as much as the next person but sometimes it was good to get outside yourself.
"Well I'm not Kaz, drink all you want; just don't drink my bottle." She laughed, taking a swig of whisky and putting out her cigarette on the floor. No, Ivy wasn't like Kaz. They'd never really been alike. Their friendship had been a strange one, and sometimes Ivy figured Kai was the glue, a bit like each of them. So when Kai belonged to Kaz, it was like he was more than half her and half Ivy, which threw the balance off.

Kai chewed the inside of his lip as he thought about her words. Kai had been extremely drunk before and never hit a woman, why would that change now? But you never know things are bound to happen soon or later. He just hoped they never did. “Yeah maybe” he said and he took another swig of his whisky, he was already half way through his bottle and he was starting to feel a little buzzed. He liked that feeling, not being tipsy but not yet drunk. He wished he could drink more and stay that way but it never happened like that. It once did when he was younger but not anymore. It was crap, he wished he was young again.
“Right you are” he said to her comment about her not being Kaz. He felt comfortable knowing that she didn’t care how much he drank. It was nice to have company whilst drinking, he usually drank on his own, which he hated doing so he didn’t do it very often, there wasn’t anything more depressing then drinking on you own like a loner. It was good to know that she didn’t care how drunk he got. He smiled when she told him that he couldn’t drink her bottle. “Yes ma’am” he said saluting her. He wouldn’t want to take her alcohol anyway, the whole point was to drink with her not steal her booze and get more drunk then her.
“Oh do you remember this?” he asked getting to shifting so he was sitting him front of her on his knees. He then lifted up his shirt and he pointed to a long thin scar that ran across his chest. “That’s when I fell out of your bedroom window and hit about seven tree branches on the way down” he said trying to look over his shirt to see the scar. He thought Ivy’s dad was going to kill him with his bare hands for being in her bedroom at 3 am. It was pretty funny, but it was painful and Kai couldn’t be in the same room as her dad for months.

Ivy watched him move in front of her and let her delicate fingers traced over the scar. "I remember." She nodded. Late night chats and meetings... her dad had found him and was sooooo pissed, Kai still had the mark to prove it. He fell to get away fast enough it seemed. "Sorry about that." Her dad wanted her to have a good life, a sound one, a real, legal one. But that wasn't what she ended up with.
Ivy took a swig out of her bottle. She didn't have any scars to compare, not physical ones anyway. Nothing she was willing to share. Life went on. Whatever.
She realized she missed those days though, missed someone wanting to sneak into her room at night and keep her company in the dark. She frowned a little when she realized that was what Kaz and Kai had now.

Kai lowered his shirt and sat down crossed legged in front of Ivy. He raised the bottle to his lips against and took a massive mouthful and placed it on the ground in front of him. It was memories like those that make him forget about what kind of life he had right now. Being second in charge of a gang was hard work and it did a number on him, but it was nothing compared to what Ivy and Kaz had to go through everyday. It was a lot to bare. He admired both of them for being so strong and the will power they had to get every day and face whatever was in store for them. “Good times, well I feared for my life when your dad came after me” he said making patterns in the dust on the floor. “I was just a little bit faster” he said looking up at her.
“Did he think we were doing stuff we shouldn’t have been?” he asked curiously as he never really found out much information about the night once it had happened. He figured it was better not spoken about after that especially around Kaz as he wasn’t sure if she would get angry that he was visiting Ivy at wee hours of the morning and not her. He tried to spend equal amounts of time with them both but having to girls as your best friend was very demanding of a young boy.

Ivy thought for a moment. How old were they when that happened? It was close to the end of their friendship if she remembered correctly... She was maybe 13? "We were still a little young for sex if that what you mean." Ivy said with a swig. She wasn't sure she wanted to tell him what her dad said about him and Kaz on a regular basis.
"My dad always thought Kaz and you were below me," She shook her head a little. Her family was rich, and Kaz and Kai were children of the street, it made sense. "He wanted there to be more in my life, wanted me to do something better.... and frankly... in the long run, I did too. But missing you both is really what led me to join the snakes, and now there's no backing out." Her fingers moved to her tattoo for a moment and she took a long swig of her beer.
"What happens here doesn't leave this room." Here they were friends, not enemies looking for secrets.

Kai smirked when she spoke exactly what he was thinking. Why else would a father react that way when he found a boy in his daughters bedroom. He could never look her father in the eye because he kept thinking over and over again was that her father thought he had, had sex it was a little embarrassing. Kai and Ivy never had sex but it was still awkward after that. “Oh well it was fun sneaking around” he said with a smile, right now and all the future meeting with Ivy were like old times. They used to sneak around just so that they could hang out without causing any trouble with her dad and now they were doing it again but this time her father was the least of his worries, he had Kaz to worry about and the rest of the tigers. What she said next kind of maybe all his confusions about their friendship as kids all seem clear. Ivy’s dad never liked him or Kaz, they were like trash that had blown up onto his front lawn. He sighed at the thought.
He didn’t say anything as he had the feeling she had more to say and he was right. He rested his elbow on his knee and then rested his chin on his hand and listened to Ivy as she spoke again her father wanting her to have a better life he figured hanging out with street rat kids was going to hold her back. Maybe it was his and Kaz’s fault that she had turned to gang life. She was right there was no backing out of it, once you join a gang that was it there was no going back. Your were a gang slum for the rest of your life, no matter how long or short it might be. “Do you regret any of the choices you made?” he asked, curiously. He had always wondered if anything she had chosen to do since the time they stopped talking to now was a regret. He had only one. Not trying hard enough to bring the three of them back together again.

"Who doesn't have regrets?" Ivy asked honestly, her eyes caught in the moonlight pouring through the window. "I regret turning to the Snakes for the family I needed, not because I don't love them, but because I wanted to be more than this. I wanted to be the top of something, great at my job, but I wanted to be within the law, something I could rub in my father's face and feel proud of.... I spend all my time lying and lonely. What did I really gain?"
Ivy sighed and took a swig of her beer. Then she knew what she had gained. Oliver. He was a fantastic friend, always there for her, always with her, always wanting the best for her. "Okay that's a little dramatic....but...." Ivy sighed again. "Gimme another smoke."
Being like this was so nice, it made her sort of depressed. It would always be like this in secret.

Kai listened to Ivy speak, it was strange to hear her pouring her heart out. It was nice to know what was going on inside that head of hers. She then asked a question, one Kai thought to be rhetorical. What did she really gain? Well there were many things you can gain from joining a gang that you didn’t have before. “Loyalty, respect, friendship” he said listing only a few things that you gain from joining a gang. These were the things he found he gained when he became second. He sighed and sipped his whisky. Her next words made him smile. It was getting a bit dramatic and mushy. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the packet and pulled one out for her and one for himself. He put the packet on the ground in front of them, just so if she wanted another on she could without having to ask.
“I guess we just gotta take life as it comes at us” he said lighting his smoke and he took a deep drag and exhaled loudly. He looked down at the bottle in his hand and sighed. He pressed the bottle to his lips and drank the rest of the alcohol. He put the empty bottle down and burped. He could taste the whisky and he was happy that he had drank the whole thing with out vomiting. It had been a long time since he had drank and it felt good to let loose for once.

Ivy sighed. He wouldn't understand. He had Kaz anyway, she had no one from her past and a lot to compensate for. It was hard to stay in power as a beautiful woman, and it often meant you had to cover your sexuality to do it. He didn't know what that was like. he had no idea what her life had been since they were tweens. She didn't need to pour out her heart just because he was the only one listening.
She took another swig and snapped her fingers. "A cigarette?" She asked again. Ivy wanted to burn up inside again. She didn't like smoking much, but right now, she needed that burn in her soul.
